Holding Corporations Accountable for a Living Wage in the Garment Industry

Dismantle Corporate Power

While Global Transnational Corporations (TNCs) source more than 60% of the world garment production from Asia, the conditions of workers in the garment industry in Asia are amongst the worst in the world. Given the ability of TNCs to quickly move production across borders, national strategies to hold them accountable are largely redundant.

How are labour unions across Asia responding to this urgent need to forge international alliances? Can the International Labour Organisation (ILO) regulate the rampant violations by global brands?  In this joint production between Newsclick and the Real News Network, Benny Kuruvilla from the Transnational Institute speaks with trade unionist Anannya Bhattacharjee on the Global Supply Chain framework, the state of workers and the campaign called the Asia Floor Wage Alliance that aims to hold global corporations accountable for the payment of a living wage
