In a statement released on February 10, 2020, the Global Campaign to Reclaim Peoples Sovereignty, Dismantle Corporate Power and Stop Impunity joined the call of 67 organisations and networks, from all over Europe and other regions, urging the Members of the European Parliament not to ratify the free trade and investment agreements between the European Union and Vietnam that will be voted in plenary on February 11. They state that the EU-Vietnam agreements do not address the urgent challenges facing the EU and Vietnam and that they are not compatible with a “Green Deal” that would make ecological action a real priority. While these trade and investment agreements are the first ever to be submitted to the new European Parliament, these organisations ask the question: “in 2020, can we still ratify trade agreements with countries that do not respect fundamental human and labour rights and fundamental freedoms” ?
